About Joyful Sounds...

Joyful Sounds School of Music offers music instruction taught by a team of degreed educators trained in conservatories and universities all over the country. Since its inception in 1996, Joyful Sounds School of Music has educated thousands of students and currently enrolls over 600 students, yearly. Our instructors are dedicated to providing students with a non-competitive environment so that they may discover, develop, and enjoy their individual artistic gifts and talents.

Sandy Pietrowicz , holds certification from group piano instruction by the Mayron Cole Conservatory in Texas. She studied music therapy at Elizabethtown College and earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Thomas Edison College in New Jersey. Sandy serves as a Director of Music and Arts at William Waters Methodist Church in Bel Air.

Kathleen Schwartz, has administered our Early Childhood Music Program since our school began.  She has been a teacher in that program as well as a piano instructor.   At present Kathleen is "on assignment" in Zambia Africa.  She and her husband are part of All Kids Can Learn International, a ministry helping to rescue some of the 1.2 million orphans in Zambia as a result of the AIDS pandemic.  While there she will work with a local school and local village bringing her experience of music from Joyful Sounds to a community halfway around the world.

In addition to being part of Joyful Sounds, she also served as Director of Music and Worship and Children's Pastor at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.  She has degrees in Music, Religion and Social Work.  She is the mother of 6 and grandmother of 4.

Janis Katsu holds an undergraduate degree in music education from Anderson University in Indiana and her Masters degree from Towson University. She has taught general music, early childhood music classes, beginning through advanced band, and private instrumental music lessons. Janis' instructional background includes experience as Assistant Band Director, Towson University, eight years as a music educator with Baltimore City Public Schools, and fifteen years in Church Youth Ministry in Baltimore City. She has also served for more than twenty years in various Music Ministry capacities, which include participating in, and/or directing adult choirs, hand bell choirs, as well as leading worship. As President and Co-Owner of Joyful Sounds School of Music, Janis enjoys integrating her past experiences in music education and administration, music and youth ministry, as well as learning many new skills.
